Restaurants - Shimauma curry shokudo

Location: Yomitan; from 58 north take the 6 towards Zanpa. Pass Torii, MaxValue, and Lawsons, it is opposite the 2 birds supermarket at the Ufudo intersection. The Boulangerie Couques is right next door. Parking is up the street just past the restaurant; parking at the grocery store is discouraged
Hours: 11:30-2:30 and 6:30-9:30, unsure what day closed
This is a tiny restaurant (2 tables, 4 barstools), run by an artistic duo. The restaurant is done is rough hewn whitewashed wood, with homemade decorations, and they play funky LPs on a record player sitting by the kitchen. There is an English menu. They have 4 Indian curry sets - a basic curry-of-the-day (740Y), a southern Indian sampler set, a coconut curry, and the special pork curry(1100Y). There is also a Tandoori set - the chicken is deliciously moist. They offer lassi, tea, and coffee separately (approx 400-500).
The curry is made with care, and distinguishes itself by not being laden with cream and oil (compare to the curry at Krishna in Plaza Shopping center, which is the standard rich westernized version). There is lots of herb and spice flavor, and garbanzos made a significant appearance. In accordance with the Japanese palate, the curry is sweeter and less spicy than a true Indian curry, but this does not diminish the effect. The restaurant seems to be a part of a local organization supporting Yomitan small business owners and craftsmen.
The main flaw of the restaurant is its popularity. We are turned away about 50% of our visits. Several times - usually after 1pm - it was because they ran out of food. So we started arriving earlier. However, not long after opening time, all the seats fill up and there is nowhere to wait. Perhaps reservations can be made. But we tend to operate more spontaneously than that. If we get rejected from Shimauma curry shokudo, Hanahou is just up the road and also fantastic.
