Chikyu Shokudo is fancier than most restaurants described on this page. The decor is attractively minimalist. There is a closed-in patio and white textiles hang from the ceilings. The restaurant does Okinawan fusion. You may order a la carte, but both times we've been there we've ordered the "group set." There are 4 sets (A, B, C, and D) ranging in price from 1800Y to >4000Y. At least two people must order the same set. As you spend more you get more seafood. The menu changes seasonally. The set does not include alcohol. Wine / sparkling starts around 2000Y a bottle, mixed drinks are in the >600Y range.
The meal sets are extravagant, interesting, and overall tasty. Much time is spent on preparation and presentation of each dish. You get a salad (ie tuna carpaccio with avocado), a soup (ie dumpling and winter melon), a pasta dish (ie mustard green and cream over spaghetti), a rice dish (ie seafood risotto), a meat dish (ie pork ribs), a fish dish (ie grilled large shrimp), a dessert (ie brown sugar flavoured cheesecake), and a choice of iced/hot tea or coffee. The effect is a lingering dinner with a sense of discovery on receipt of each new dish. Inevitably, some dishes are nicer than others, and neither dessert we tried was great. The salads and meat dishes were remarkably good; the shrimp was overcooked for our taste.
A nice option for a celebration, a long dinner with friends, or a date.
