Restaurants - How Tsu

Location - Hamby town; see post on Okinawa Hai website (to eat --> restaurants --> post entitled Steamed Bun Heaven)
Hours 1200-1900, closed Mon
After reading the enthusiastic review on Okinawa Hai, we had to try this hole-in-the-wall family business. We were not disappointed. The buns here are nicer than those sampled on the street in China, and in several Chinatowns the world over. Perhaps it's the freshness. The dough is airy, not sweet, not oily, not gluggy. The savory bun filling has a beautiful mushroom/pork flavour. The purple bun has a delicate bean paste filling and no overt sweet potato tones. (1 bun = 120Y). The pork sandwich is a creative touch - a small "flatbread" of dough folded over like a taco around a tender piece of okinawan-style pork with a sheet of fresh lettuce (250Y). You can get two buns and a pot of tea for 300Y. We were served a fragrant jasmine tea with a true floral aroma.
There can be a wait to order because people will come to pick up huge boxes of buns for parties/functions. There are 4 seats at the bar and a table seating 6; most business is to-go.
