Restaurants - Hana hou

Location - Yomitan, on the 6. If driving north, the cafe is on the left side of the road just before the 6 makes a right-angle turn at the point where the road to Zanpa comes off. There is a sign.
Hours: 11:30-3p, 6-10p. English menu with photos. http://cafe07.ti-da.net/e1590918.html
Hana hou maintains the Hawaiian theme from start to finish. The decor involves reproductions of vintage prints of Hawaii, leis, dark wood, tropical plants, etc. The music is pleasant island stuff, at the right volume. The bathroom has its own sound system. The drinks menu offers Orion (500Y) in addition to several Hawaiian microbrews (750Y), and cocktails like Blue Hawaii (800Y) in addition to Awamori-based drinks.
The lunch set includes help-yourself soup, salad, and drinks. On offer during our visit was a delightfully simple egg drop soup, light and tasty, without that horrible cornstarch glugginess favored by americanised Chinese restaurants. The salad is the cabbage/lettuce combo, served with 3 different dressing choices (rand, tomato-onion, and Japanese). Drinks are iced tea, hot/iced coffee, and water.
There are several choices for mains priced at 950Y and 1050Y (for the lunch set). These include a hamburger, a meat curry, and a dish of rice, raw tuna, avocado, soy, onion, and a raw egg. The latter is a delicious combination of flavours, bound together by the creaminess of the egg and avocado. The former is spicy, savory, unusual, and also very tasty. The meals are lovingly prepared, with great attention to presentation. The service was perhaps overattentive, but in a way that suggested the proprietor puts such effort into his cafe that he is just trying to ensure that a guests' every need is addressed. A delightful cafe, in a spot convenient to lots of Yomitan attractions.
